Spinal Decompression in North County San Diego
The spine is an intricate structure that starts at the tailbone and travels up the back to the base of the skull. It consists of a column of bones called vertebrae, each separated by a cushioning, shock-absorbing disc that allows flexibility and movement.
When the discs become impacted and cannot perform as they’re meant to, spinal decompression is a great way to safely and naturally re-establish correct function within the structure.
SpineMED® doctors have uniquely trained our Solana Beach chiropractic clinic to use the highly effective SpineMed® Decompression Table and meticulously determine if you’d be a good candidate for it.

What to Know About the SpineMED Decompression Table
SpineMED®, the world’s leading non-surgical decompression system, is designed to target and remove pressure on (decompress) injured intervertebral discs through distraction and positioning of the lumbar or cervical spine.
The process of table decompression provides a non-surgical, drug-free procedure for patients suffering from several conditions, including:
- Bulging and herniated discs
- Sciatica
- Spinal stenosis
- Disc degeneration
- Posterior Facet syndrome
- Non-specified mechanical low back or neck pain
- And others
These imbalances can cause discomfort that ranges in severity and can impact how you move, work, and exercise, forcing you to abandon your daily routine. Commonly, low back pain and neck pain are the result of spine injuries. However, due to the connectivity in the body, headaches, shoulder pain, hip pain, and other symptoms may also arise.
How Do Spinal Decompression Tables Work?
Spinal decompression tables have two parts that move separately from each other. It’s set up with an individualized decompression program using computerized technology based on the patient’s needs.
The proper program is designed after learning the patient’s diagnosis and understanding how they responded to other treatments.
The patient will lie on the table as instructed, and the mechanics of the table will stretch the spine, creating negative pressure and space within the spinal discs and allowing disc fluid to be correctly repositioned. This offers quick function and comfort as healing nutrients travel to the injury.
Manual decompression is challenging and often ineffective because our muscles are inclined to resist stretch. Decompression tables have sensors that detect when muscles are reacting this way and work to relieve tension so the muscle calms and decompression is accomplished. This approach makes the table much more effective at achieving the ultimate goal of lasting pain relief.

The Process of Spinal Decompression
Discovering if you are the right candidate for the spinal decompression table is important. We’ll provide a thorough physical exam that includes an MRI to ensure it’s safe for you and discuss several aspects of your medical history, lifestyle, injuries, and more.
Once the table has been found safe for you, we will input the necessary information into the computer, place you on the table, and allow the healing to begin. Each session will last about 30 minutes.
You can expect to feel no pain during the treatment, and most experience immediate relief afterward. The SpineMED® Decompression Table is best in and has excellent features, making it effective and safe for those who qualify. Let us determine if that’s you.
You Do Not Have To Live with Lower Back & Neck Pain
Intervertebral disc pathology is one of the primary causes of back and neck pain. The discs are prone to degeneration and injury as they are compressed and twisted through daily activities, whether due to consistent sports or exercise, your occupation, or regular wear and tear.
As the disc degenerates, the gel-like nucleus loses its hydration, reducing disc height and creating the possibility of facet syndrome and lateral foraminal stenosis. Furthermore, disc degeneration causes the pliable outer coating of the annulus to become brittle and susceptible to cracks and tears that can lead to disc herniations. Bulging or herniated discs often press on spinal nerves, causing severe pain and radiculopathy.
Damaged intervertebral discs seldom heal because they remain under constant pressure, even while a person is at rest. It is widely accepted that the ideal environment to improve disc pathology is to decompress or reduce the intradiscal pressures of the damaged disc.
The goal of reducing intradiscal pressure is to enhance the osmotic diffusion of fluids and nutrients across the endplates into the disc, furthering the body’s natural healing abilities.
Additionally, reduction of intradiscal pressures may help draw the nucleus pulposus of a herniated disc back into the center, thereby relieving pressure on a compressed nerve root—alleviating the problem and the pain.

What Our Patients Have to Say
“I’ve been on disability for almost one year now. I’ve tried physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, and this Dr. Pierce, by far, has helped me more than anybody else has. I used to be scared of chiropractors, but it took someone of his level of expertise to make me feel comfortable, and really enjoy the experience. I’d recommend him to all.”
